Easy Mango Sago | Refreshing Coconut Mango Tapioca Dessert 🥭🥥

A cool, creamy tropical dessert you can make at home with just a few simple ingredients!

Looking for a refreshing treat that tastes like summer in a glass? This Easy Mango Sago is the answer. Soft, chewy tapioca pearls swim in a silky mango-coconut puree, then get topped with juicy fresh mango chunks. It is light, naturally fruity, and so simple that anyone can make it. Perfect for hot days, after-dinner dessert, or a fun kitchen project with the kids.

We’re making a homemade version today — no fancy tools, no long list of ingredients, just ripe mangoes, coconut milk, a little sweetened condensed milk, and tapioca pearls.

A Little History: Where Mango Sago Comes From

Mango sago is a modern Hong Kong classic. The famous restaurant version is called mango pomelo sago, or in Chinese 楊枝甘露 (yeung ji gam lou / yang zhi gan lu), which means “sweet dew from the willow branch.” The name comes from a story in Journey to the West: the goddess Guanyin uses sweet dew from a willow branch to refresh and bless people. The dessert was meant to feel the same way — cooling, light, and comforting on a hot day.

It was created in the mid-1980s by chef Wong Wing-chee at Hong Kong’s Lei Garden restaurant, while the group was preparing its first Singapore branch. Singapore’s heat and tropical fruit inspired a cold sweet soup of mango, pomelo, sago pearls, and coconut milk. It quickly spread through Hong Kong dessert shops (like Hui Lau Shan and Honeymoon Dessert) and then across Southeast Asia and beyond.

At home, many families skip the pomelo and keep it simple — just mango, coconut milk, and pearls. The little pearls you buy in most grocery stores are usually tapioca pearls (from cassava), which cook the same way and give that signature bounce. That is the version we make here.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • Only a handful of ingredients — pantry staples plus fresh fruit.
  • Beginner-friendly — if you can boil water and use a blender, you can make this.
  • Family-friendly & fun — kids love watching the pearls turn clear.
  • Make-ahead friendly — even better after a couple of hours in the fridge.
  • Easy to customize — swap the fruit to whatever is ripe and tastes good with coconut milk.

Ingredients

  • ½–1 cup small tapioca pearls (use ½ cup for a lighter bowl, 1 cup if you like extra pearls)
  • 6–8 cups water (for boiling the pearls)
  • 2 ripe mangoes (1 for blending, 1 for chunks and garnish)
  • ¾ cup coconut milk
  • ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Boil the water
    Pour 6–8 cups of water into a pot and bring it to a rolling boil.
  2. Cook the tapioca pearls
    Add the tapioca pearls. Stir occasionally and boil for 15–20 minutes, until the pearls turn mostly clear (a tiny white center is okay at first). They should look glossy and tender.
  3. Drain and rinse
    Pour the pearls into a fine-mesh strainer. Rinse well under cold running water to stop the cooking and wash away extra starch so they stay separate and bouncy. Transfer the rinsed pearls to a mixing bowl.
  4. Prep the mango
    Peel both mangoes. Cut one mango into small cubes or chunks for mixing and decorating. Set aside.
  5. Blend the puree (our favorite way)
    Add the second mango to the blender with ¾ cup coconut milk and ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
    You do not have to blend the fruit. You can simply stir cubed mango into the coconut milk and condensed milk. That gives a lighter, chunkier dessert. We prefer blending because it makes an extra-thick, creamy, fruity sauce that coats every pearl.
  6. Combine
    Pour the mango-coconut puree over the cooked tapioca pearls. Stir gently until every pearl is coated. Fold in some of the mango chunks, saving the prettiest pieces for the top.
  7. Serve or chill
    Spoon into glasses or small cups. Enjoy right away, or refrigerate for about 2 hours until cold. As it chills, the pearls plump up a little more as they soak in the mango puree.

Fruit Swaps That Love Coconut Milk

Mango is the classic, but this recipe works with other fruits that taste wonderful with coconut milk. Use the same amounts and the same method (blend one portion for creaminess, keep one portion in chunks for texture):

  • Pineapple
  • Peach or nectarine
  • Ripe banana
  • Papaya
  • Lychee or longan
  • Strawberries
  • Passion fruit (blend the pulp into the coconut milk; add extra chunks of mango or peach on top)
  • Mixed berries (best blended with a ripe banana or mango so the sauce stays creamy)

Pick fruit that is ripe and sweet. If your fruit is a little tart, you can add a teaspoon more condensed milk. If it is very sweet, you can use a little less.

Storage tip: Keep covered in the fridge for up to 2 days. The pearls will keep absorbing the puree, so give it a gentle stir before serving. Best enjoyed cold.

Creamy pearls, fresh fruit, and coconut milk — this is sunshine in a cup. Make it with mango the classic way, or swap in whatever fruit your family loves. Yum!

cook the tapioca pearl in the boiling water
cook for about 15-20 minutes until clear color
Rinse with cold water
peel some mangoes
Add coconut milk, sweeten condensed milk, mango and blend it up
blend it up until smooth
prepare Sago in a bowl with mango chunks
Add mango puree into the Sago bowl
Mix well and chill in the fridge at least 2 hours for the best flavor
put in the serving glass and top with coconut milk
top with more mangoes

These crepes are thin, super crispy, and packed with protein. Perfect for a quick and delicious breakfast! This is a great way to add extra protein to your meals.
We love this brand because the ingredients are natural and there’s no artificial taste. We even tried mixing ¼ cup of the protein powder with 300ml cold water — it tastes so real, almost like eating dried fruits and vegetables.
Since our family isn’t big on drinking shakes or smoothies, we prefer cooking with it instead. Hope you give this recipe a try!

Ingredients:

* ½ cup EarthChimp Chocolate Protein Powder

* ¾ cup Rice Flour

* ½ cup Cornstarch

* ¾ tsp Baking Powder

* ¼ tsp Salt

* 1 Egg

* 1 1/2 cups Dairy or non-dairy milk (or as needed)

* 1 tsp Vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
Add the egg and milk gradually, mixing until you get a smooth, thin batter.
Heat a non-stick pan on low heat. Pour about half a ladle of batter and swirl it as thin as possible.
Cook for 2–3 minutes until the crepe looks dry and starts to peel off the pan.
Add your favorite filling (I used Nutella, banana, and chocolate chips).
Fold the crepe in half, then fold again. Cook and flip until it reaches your preferred crispiness.
Serve with chocolate drizzle or whipped cream.

For a vegan option, just skip the egg and use non-dairy milk.
Crispy, protein-packed, and so good — perfect for breakfast or anytime!

 We are so proud of our vegetable and flower garden this year. It may not be perfect, but every plant you see was grown with love and care.
Most of what we grow starts from tiny seeds. It’s more work, more patience, and more of a challenge — but it’s also more fun and more affordable. Watching those little seeds turn into a full garden has been one of the most rewarding parts of our year. Seeing the beautiful outcome makes us so proud.
One of our favorite things about this lifestyle is that we barely need to buy vegetables all summer. Every morning we walk out to the garden, pick whatever is ready, and then decide what to cook based on what nature gives us that day. It’s such a simple, peaceful rhythm — and it fills our kitchen (and our hearts) with so much joy.
This is the kind of life we love: simple, clean, healthy, and full of love.
